A few nights ago I walked into the barn and Prize stuck her nose out of the stall to greet me. I saw her out of the corner of my eye and raised up my left hand to touch her nose. I must have totally misjudged the distance between us because I ended up punching her in the nose. She backed up rapidly and looked at me with a mixture of horror and hurt feelings like, “Why did you hit me!?” I went flying into her stall and gave her lots of hugs and apologies and nose rubs until she settled down. Then I was talking to Spirit and told him that I hit Prize because I knew he would approve. In the course of chatting with him while getting his dinner ready I used too many hand gestures and actually hit him in the nose too. His response? He head butted me right back and then ate his dinner. And that sums up the differences in my horses.
