The Three Weissmanns of Westport by Cathleen Schine-  Joe and Betty Weissman are in their 70s and have been married for decades when he announces that he wants a divorce because of irreconcilable differences. Betty moves to a cousin’s cottage in Westport to recover. She takes her two adult daughters. Miranda’s business just collapsed and Annie feels a need to supervise her mother and sister. There are some funny parts in this book but it was a bit too literary for my tastes. I wanted it to move faster.

Legacy by Danielle Steel-  Brigette just lost her boyfriend of six years and her job of ten years in 24 hours. At loose ends she agrees to help her mother with her geneological research. She finds out that one of their ancestors was a Sioux woman who ended up in France married to a marquis. Brigette goes hunting for the explanation of how this happened.   The book tells the story of both women and how they cope with unforseen events in their lives.

If A Tree Falls At Lunch Period by Gennifer Choldenko (audio) – Seventh grade is awful especially for Kirsten and Walker. Kirsten’s parents are fighting all the time and she’s gained 30 lbs. Her best friend is suddenly hanging out with the popular girls instead of her. Walker is new at this private school and is the only black kid in seventh grade. The book is told in their alternating voices. It was sort of hard to listen to because as an adult I just wanted to thump the mean girl giving them trouble and get it over with. But then it got deeper. This was a great story and the audio presentation is very good.
