Valentine and Gianluca from Brava Valentine are back and getting married.

I have really liked this series and this author but this book was just horrible. I figured I was alone in this until I saw other reviews on Goodreads. It seems to overwhelmingly hated for a variety of reasons. Here are mine.

These characters are nice people in the other books. They have suddenly turned hateful and selfish. They get married and then make major decisions for each other without informing the other person. This happens over and over. They never learn to get along and work together.

The other thing that bothered me was the attitudes towards marriage in the book. There is a lot about how marrying in Valentine’s family is complicated because Gianluca is *gasp* divorced and they don’t do that in her family. What century is this? Then she goes on about how she has to bond with the ex-wife because divorced people still love each other. Um, no. I’m indifferent to my ex and most of the time forget that he ever existed. The husband’s ex calls him regularly and from the vitriol that she screams at him I don’t get the impression that her heart is overflowing with love.

Skip this one.

Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1)Hounded by Kevin Hearne

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Atticus is a 21 century-old Druid now living in Arizona with his Irish Wolfhound, Oberon.  He chose Arizona because of the absence of fairies.  But now they have found him and want to settle an old score.

Audible recommended this series to me when I downloaded the latest Kim Harrison novel.  I really liked it.  It is funny and that always draws me in.  Atticus and Oberon have a mental link that allows them to talk to each other which I think is the best part of the book.  Oberon wants to emulate Genghis Khan with a horde and a harem and conquering Siberia, not that he knows where that is.  That’s what happens when you leave Netflix on for your dog to watch.

I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
