Summer Knight by Jim Butcher – This is book four of the Dresden Files. Harry Dresden is a wizard for hire in Chicago. He is approached by the Winter Queen of the Faeries to find out who murdered the Summer Queen’s Knight. Everything thinks the Winter Queen did it and the Faerie world is heading to war.

I liked this book a lot more than the previous one. I think I will continue with this series.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett – I listened to this on audio. This was probably the best audio book I’ve listened to. It is acted out by four actresses. It is 15 hours long so it took a long time to get through it but it was worth it. I thought about abandoning the audio for the written version a few times in order to find out what happens faster but the performances made me stay with it.

This is the story of maids in the early 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi. They get together to tell their stories to a white lady who wants to write a book about them despite the risks. This is a great story of life as it was for different groups of people in Mississippi on the cusp of the civil rights movement. I don’t really know how to describe this book. It is one that you just need to read to understand.

The SO doesn’t read fiction. He thinks made up stories aren’t worth reading. But we were talking about books and I told him that I was listening to this one. He started listening too. On our trip to my parents’ this weekend we kept listening. When we got home last night we had three discs left so we listened until we were done. He really enjoyed it. It seemed real enough to satisfy him.
