Two for the Dough by Janet Evanovich

New Jersey newbie bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is hunting Kenny Mancuso when his friends start showing up dead.

I read this after seeing the movie version of the first book in the series. Since there are about 18 of these books they will be able to entertain me for a while. This will be 2012’s version of The Dresden Files which I read all last year.

Can I Keep My Jersey?: 11 Teams, 5 Countries, and 4 Years in My Life as a Basketball Vagabond by Paul Shirley

Paul Shirley is a basketball player who is almost good enough to play in the NBA. While trying for his chances in the NBA he plays in Europe and in minor leagues in the US. This is the story of what it is like to try to make a living as an athlete.

I enjoyed this book but it could get pretty whiny at times. He knows this about himself and comments on his pessimistic nature. You don’t have to be a huge basketball fan to enjoy this book.

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah

Anya’s daughters have never felt loved by their distant mother. When their father is dying he makes one last request – listen to a fairy tale that their mother used to tell but this time make her tell the ending. What emerges over time is the horrors of her life during the siege of Leningrad.

This book was great. It kept me up at night reading to see how it turned out. The last few chapters add some twists that are a bit sad. That seems weird to say that after reading about the deaths of a million people that a made up plot twist was sad but it was.
