A Spanish Lover by Joanna Trollope

Francis and Lizzie are identical near-40 year old twins in England. Lizzie has a business and a family and has always felt sorry for Francis even though she also has a successful business. When Francis takes a married lover in Spain Lizzie finds her life starting to fall apart as she is consumed by jealousy.

I usually like this author’s books and this one started out well. However, the ending didn’t thrill me. I liked the independence that Francis was showing and then she made some very bad decisions that sort of ruined the book for me.

High Five by Janet Evanovich

This is the 5th novel of the Stephanie Plum series. She is trying to find her missing uncle whom no one seems to miss very much. Along the way she ends up with an angry little person in her apartment and is being chased by a parolee with a grudge.

I Was Vermeer: The Rise and Fall of the Twentieth Century’s Greatest Forger by Frank Wynne

Han van Meegeren was a frustrated realist painter in the early 1900s when realism was going out of style. He blamed his lack of a career on the critics so he decided to embarrass them. He painted a painting in the style of Vermeer and had it authenticated by experts. He planned to expose them as soon as it sold but the money was nice in forgery. He ended up being tried for selling artwork to the Nazis and the only way to save himself to was admit that he was a forger.

I didn’t know much about art forgery. This was an interesting look at the arguments around attributing paintings and the ideas that many of the best known old masterpieces may be forgeries.
