I have a lot in progress this week but not a lot of finishes.

Distant Shores by Kristin Hannah

Jack and Elizabeth Shores married in college right before Jack went into the NFL. Now, 20 years later he’s trying to revive his stalled sportscaster career and she’s trying to decide who she is now that her children are grown.

I liked this book for the most part. Towards the end it got a little cliched which was sad because it had been valiantly holding off being stereotypical for a while.

Lean Mean Thirteen by Janet Evanovich

Stephanie Plum’s no good ex-husband Dickie disappears the day after she plants a bug on him. The bug is for her sometimes boss, Rangeman Security but she doesn’t know why. All she knows is that she is the primary suspect so she is suddenly concerned about finding him.

Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich

Stephanie Plum is stuck with Zook, a graffiti crazy, gamer teenager when his mother can’t get bonded out of jail. His uncle Dom, who is newly released from jail for bank robbery, won’t come get him and Dom is making strange threats towards Stephanie’s boyfriend Joe. When word gets out that Dom may have hid part of his loot from the robbery in the house that Joe now lives in everyone in the ‘Burg is suddenly in on the treasure hunt.

These are still fun, light and fluffy reads. I enjoy them but then I can’t even remember what they were about in a few days.

Son of Hamas: A Gripping Account of Terror, Betrayal, Political Intrigue, and Unthinkable Choices by Mosab Hassan Yousef

The author is the son of one of the founders of Hamas. Over time he came to reject the violence being done in the name of Hamas and started to work as an informer for the Israelis.

I wanted more from this book. It is a very superficial look at events in the Middle East. I would have liked more attempts to put everything in the historical context.
