White Night by Jim Butcher-  This is another Dresden Files novel. I skipped a book in the series which is always upsetting to me. It doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things in this series if they are a bit out of order.

In this book Harry, the only wizard in the Chicago phone book, is being framed for the abduction of several low level magical women. He starts to investigate the disappearances and everything points to his brother.

Matched by Ally Condie-  This is a dystopian YA novel. Is there any other kind?  Cassia lives in a perfect Society. Everyone who wishes to be married is matched with their perfect mate based on genetics and personality.  The matches are revealed at a Banquet where kids see their match for the first time. Cassia is matched with her best friend, Xander. It is extremely unusual to be matched with someone you know. When Cassia gets home and puts in her data card about Xander she sees a different person’s picture and she knows him too. Could Society have made a mistake?  That is impossible but suddenly small cracks start to show in the system that cause her to question everything sees been taught.

Clara and Mr Tiffany by Susan Vreeland-  This novel is based on letters that were written by Clara Driscoll. She was the head of the woman’s department at Tiffany Glass Company. It is thought that she might have been the designer of the Tiffany lamps. The story covers the gender politics of the studio and her life in a boardinghouse full of artists. It is a great introduction to early 20th century New York life.

Run by Dean Karnazes-  There are 26.2 short stories about running. The author is an ultramarathoner. He runs multiday races through deserts and mountains. These are the stories of some of his most extreme races and the people he met along the way.

The Goddess of Fried Okra by Jean Brashear – Eudora has set off on a journey to find the soul of her reincarnated sister. She doesn’t really know where to look for her but she is headed towards Taos since Sister always liked it. On the way Eudora picks up a kitten, a pregnant teenager, and a con man trying to go straight. When they end up stranded outside a small Texas town, they all need to decide what it is that they really want out of life.

This was a cute fast read which unusual characters.
