What was new for me in my bookish habits in 2025?

I read more sci-fi

Usually I needed to remind myself to read sci-fi in order to have fresh books to talk about during Science Fiction month. But after that month in 2024 I just kept reading sci-fi regularly through 2025.

It helped that the genre became part of the rotation in my audiobooks along with fantasy and nonfiction. In fact, I’ve been listening to mostly science fiction for that last several months.

I gave up on any bookish social media

I pretty much don’t do any social media any more except for Instagram only for my weight loss group. I don’t look at anything else. I was still trying to remember to post sometimes to Bluesky or check out posts occasionally. But I generally only remembered to read it when I was on long road trips. I liked it but it wasn’t part of my day to day life any more. Bookish instagram didn’t interest me. TikTok wasn’t a place where I ever found my people. Even YouTube, that I listen to a lot, didn’t have book content that I enjoyed. I’m a blog person for book content down to my soul, I guess.

Jessica Rosenberg became my dealer

I like Jessica Rosenberg’s books. I don’t remember why I signed up for her newsletter but I’m glad I did.

She mentions what she is reading or other suggestions in her newsletter. We have the exact same taste. If she loved it I should just get it. Want proof? Last week I laughed out loud when she recommended Quarter Share. If you’ve been around here you know I’ve been pushing that book since I read it last fall. I mean, it came out in 2007. What are the odds that another person would be recommending it at the same time?
