I love animals and I love science fiction so let’s combine them together!
The cats (and dolphins) of Starter Villain are amazing. Basically, make it so humans can understand them and then turn them loose to wreak havoc and sow chaos upon the land. I love them but I wouldn’t want to be on their bad side.

In these two books all I could think the whole time is that they were being very irresponsible with their cats. This is totally my veterinarian brain coming out.
In Just Out of Jupiter’s Reach, a cat and a human are in a ship for 5 years. What provisions have been made for the cat’s medical care? That’s a significant portion of that cat’s life span.
In The Last Gifts of the Universe there is a cat in a spaceship but he also goes on away missions and gets himself in danger. Again, where is the closest veterinary facility for him? I was stressed.

This series has a cat on a spaceship named Harry but he is actually a very lifelike robot. He’s adorable and smart and funny. His cat bed is a charging station. He also has a robot parrot friend. I didn’t spend the whole book worried about their health.

We are back to talking cats in this steampunk/futuristic series. The cats have set up their own parallel societies to the humans in the cities. Sometimes they are willing to work together with humans to get things done even if humans can’t always be trusted.
Just to prove that it isn’t all cats, we have Beast from Clean Sweep. She’s a Shih Tzu living in a Texas bed and breakfast on the surface. On the inside, she’s a highly predatory alien who is completely capable of defending the interdimensional way station that is inside the house.
