In the afternoon on Cozumel day on my Viking cruise, I wandered around the port.

It is mostly touristy shops on the road along the water but I wanted to go for a walk.

I did veer away from the main drag and just a block away there was a nice square and park with some art installations.

I think that is coral. The message was about ocean health.

Behind the park there were other slightly less obnoxious touristy stores.

I love murals and Cozumel had a lot.

They also had a bunch of pirates along the water.

I kept going further because you could see that every so often there would be more statues along the water and I wanted to see what they were.

These ones are rude to turtles.

I ended up at a little monument to the people who died when the Spanish came.

Then I headed back and saw more statues.

Viking ships are considered small cruise ships. This shows what that means. They joked that we’d look like the lifeboat to the bigger boats when we docked. That’s our boat next to a Disney ship.

I always feel like on ocean cruises that you don’t really get to see much of the area where you stop. It is what I really don’t like about this type of vacation. I always feel like I’m missing so much but at least I got to have a little bit of a wander to see a bit of the town.
