Happy Gotcha Day (yesterday) Nemo! He came to live with us on January 17, 2021 when he was 2 years old. Now look at this spoiled brat pampered pooch.
We had a little vacation this week. Back in November a coworker and I decided that by January we’d want a long weekend. So we picked a random Friday to take off. Thursday is our normal weekday off. The husband, Nemo, and I booked a pet-friendly cabin at a state park in southern Ohio with the plan to lay around and read.
I didn’t even take any pictures so imagine that it looked like this but with a lot more snow.
We had a two bedroom cabin. The husband and I looked at the double bed in one room and the two sets of bunk beds in the other and both yelled, “Bunk beds!” We are children. We both got the bottom bunks. Nemo chose to sleep with me on the first night. I’m not smug about that at all. In the morning the husband leaned over and said, “I missed sleeping with you last night,” and kissed Nemo on the head. I punched him later for it when I worked up the energy.
Nemo was sort of freaked out by the whole cabin the woods vibe. There were sounds that were new to him. I ended up having to play a Calming Music for Dogs youtube channel for him the first night to get him to quit growling.
We laid around, read books, watched HGTV (our typical vacation TV watching), and went swimming.
It was a pretty chill few days off. I managed to read three books.

On the blog last week:
It’s Monday! What are you reading?
Most Anticipated Books Coming Out in Early 2026

That sounds like such a lovely getaway!
That sounds like a fantastic mini vacay (except for the sleeping in bunk beds thing)
Wishing you a relaxed reading week
Aw, look at Nemo!!
Sounds amazing. Lulu has traveled a lot so she adapts quickly to new places. She did complain when we went north the first time and there was snow. She doesn’t like that cold white stuff. Nemo! I can’t get over the growling. We always watch HGTV or Animal Planet on trips. For about a year though we have them through streaming service. We never had cable so we were excited to have those when traveling.

I’ve always want to stay in a cabin in the woods during the winter! Southern Ohio is not that far from me, I will have to check it out.
And this made me laugh – “In the morning the husband leaned over and said, โI missed sleeping with you last night,โ and kissed Nemo on the head. I punched him later for it when I worked up the energy.”
Happy gotcha day to Nemo! Sounds like a nice little trip. I am needing a staycation WITHOUT my dogs. I need a couple uninterrupted nights of sleep and time to just sit without going outside constantly, half the time one of the dogs not doing anything, especially in this cold. It looks like I need to check out some of your reviews as the Audrey Lane book was a DNF for me. Hope you have a good week!

What a fun vacation you had…glad you were able to find a way to help Nemo with the cabin experience.
History Matters sounds like an interesting read.
That looks like a really nice cabin in southern Ohio. Perfect for a long weekend with Nemo!
Nemo is SO precious!!!
