Look at this best baby in the whole world. This is Paul. On Friday night we came home from a concert after our bedtime. He was yelling from the basement. I figured it was because he comes upstairs for the night after the dog goes to bed. He knows when that should be. It was past the appointed time for the changing of the guard and the dog was still up because the humans were out. Paul wouldn’t stop yelling. He’s very opinionated about this issue but this was excessive.

I went downstairs to pacify him. Then I heard Lucy crying. I took me a minute to figure out what the issue was. She had gotten her nails on one paw stuck in a cat bed that I’ve never seen anyone use before. In trying to get herself out, she had twisted fabric around her foot and was cutting off circulation to her paw. We ended up having to cut the bed apart to relieve the twist while she was trying to murder us. Then the husband was able to pry her nails out of it while I restrained her.

Side note – I grabbed her and told him to go get scissors. He headed for the kitchen. I yelled, “Sewing room!” because that was right there. I have trained that man not to touch my sewing scissors so well that they weren’t even an option in his mind during an emergency when fabric needed cut.

Her paw was so swollen but she wouldn’t let me get a good exam or give her meds. She went into hiding. Saturday I managed to get a steroid pill into her and the swelling is down. I went to the office and got full cat battle gear. We managed to get her nails all trimmed down so this doesn’t happen again. I need to get her on a regular schedule for trims at work. She is a perfect princess for nail trims there – not the murder hornet she is at home.

So Paul probably saved her foot because he loves his Lucy and panics whenever she is upset. He’s a hero!
