I went to the Cleveland Book Fair which was the kickoff event for a month of book events that includes the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards.
I was disappointed in the book fair. I was envisioning larger booths with lots of books from each of these bookstores and groups. But instead each of them just had a table to let people know about the place.
I found a few books I was interested in.
There were some interesting bookstores. Some were feminist or owned by people of color. Another was focused on authors with disabilities.
There was a store called Parallel Universe Bookstore that was all fantasy and science fiction. The actual store was only 2 miles away so I went over there to see it. It was so cute! It was in this little commune of mini Quonset huts that all had stores in them.
There was an upstairs where a very loud discussion was going on about the difference between an elf and a Sidhe and why the one person considered themself a sorcerer and how they defined that. I hope that was a role-playing game space and not where they held job interviews.
I want to live in a village of these little huts.
