I was having this discussion with a bookish friend while we were at a book fair. She likes to buy books. She’s a firm believer that if she likes a book then she should own that book – preferably a pretty version of that book.
I don’t want to own books. I think they are clutter for the most part. The vast majority of the books that I’ve read I’m never going to reread – even if I liked it. That’s not the main reason why I prefer to read ebooks but it helps. I have one iPad with a library on it. I don’t have stacks of books sitting around.
Ok, to be honest, I still have way too many stacks of books sitting around. Either I bought them for the husband and I both to read or I found it used. I have 2 bookcases and I try to limit my books to that. If I get more I ruthlessly purge and donate. I still have way too much overflow.
I like my books to go poof and be gone when I finish them. It is best if they are e-library books that literally vanish into the ether. If I have to read a physical book, I much prefer it to be a library book so I can take it back and never see it again.
I have a feeling that I’m seriously in the minority here based just on the amount of people who gush over sparkly editions of books.
