I’ve been a Ricky Martin fan since I was in Costa Rica in 1992 at the time his first solo album came out. He doesn’t tour in the continental U.S. very often. When I saw that he had one date in Chicago this summer I was disappointed that it overlapped with a time that I was already scheduled to be in Nashville. Then I realized that it was day after I left Nashville and I was already off work. I could just take a detour on the way home from Nashville. It just added a few days and a few hundred miles of driving.
I got a really nice AirBnB.
It was walking distance to Lake Michigan.
So I spent some of the morning there and went to the concert that night.
The concert ticket included a free train ticket to the venue so I decided to do that. It was a good choice. It was at the Ravinia Festival.
The Amtrak train dropped us off at the gate and then a special train came back after the concert and picked up everyone heading back to Chicago at once.
There was just a small covered concert venue. The rest of the grounds were lawn seating. I’m used to places like this having pretty good sight lines at least to screens. This place didn’t. I don’t think most of the people there could see anything. I also don’t think they cared. People had whole buffets set up on the lawn. Here’s a small portion of the lawn close to the pavilion.

I had paid the big bucks for an inside ticket. I’m certainly glad I did because after all this extra effort I would not have been happy to be fighting for a place on the lawn where I couldn’t see a dang thing.
The seats were really comfy too. Nice and padded.
