In the third book of this series, humans have been forcibly evolved to a point where they lay in the yard to absorb nutrients from the soil. I want to do that. It sounds so peaceful.

Current and recent immigrants to the U.S. are tattooed with different colored ink so everyone knows their status. This was written in the early 2010s but I still think about it a lot when I listen to the news.

So many thoughts in my mind come from this book.

  • Always pack towels? Yes
  • Is the answer always 42? Yes
  • When will the dolphins be leaving us and thanking us for the fish?

I preach the virtues of this book all the time. I want this one to happen. Humans are going to be made to join a galactic federation but in order to join there needs to be world peace. Since we can’t do it ourselves, the aliens will force us into it. Their solutions to our problems are beautifully creative.

This is one of the best discussions of religion ever. Also, if I ever had a tortoise I was going to name it Om after The Great God Om who woke up in the body of the tortoise when his believers stopped actually truly believing and just were going through the motions.

One of the countries in this book follows a god named Nuggan. He is very active. He keeps declaring things abominations – like cats, babies, and the color blue. His priests keep the scriptures in binders so they can update easily. I have declared many mildly annoying things to be An Abomination Unto Nuggan. It is quite satisfying.
