Wyrd and Wonder is a celebration of all things Fantasy in May. There are prompts for everyday. I’m going to pick and choose a few to discuss.

Fantasy Settings Inspired by Non-European Cultures

I figured this one was easy for me. I’ve read lots of fantasy set around the world, right? When I dug down and started to really look though I realized that there weren’t as many as I thought and that a lot of the books that I was thinking of were really sci-fi. Obviously, I’m going to need some more recommendations.

African – inspired

Obviously any African-inspired list will be dominated by Nnedi Okorafor. Not all of her books fall into the fantasy category in my mind but these ones do.

Asian – inspired

North American – inspired

Obviously there are huge numbers of American-set urban fantasy novels but I chose some that feature American mythology specifically. Anansi Boys is Caribbean influenced African gods in America so put it wherever you want.
