I know I say this all the time but I mean it this time. I’m going to start eating healthier. I’ve been investigating the Abs Diet and it seems sensible and doable. I think it is more of a reminder system to eat healthy than an actual “diet”. The program recommends eating three meals and two snacks a day. It has 12 powerfoods. The goal is to include at least 2 (but preferably more) of the powerfoods in each meal. If you do that you will be eating healthy.

Here are the foods:

Almonds or other nuts
Beans and legumes
Spinach and other green vegetables

Dairy (low fat milk, cheese, yogurt)
Instant oatmeal (unsweetened)
Eggs
Turkey or other lean meat (not for me!)

Peanut butter (all natural, sugar free, in moderation)
Olive oil
Whole grains
Extra protein whey powder
Raspberries and other fruits

It recommends smoothies as a way to pack a lot of nutrition in without a lot of cooking. I like smoothies. Eating these foods is definately not going to make a person feel deprived. It is basically just cutting out over processed foods and eating real food instead. It will also help to eat more smaller meals during the day so you never get horribly hungry and then want to pig out.

To prove that I really mean it this time I’m doing the unthinkable. I’m posting the stats.

August 23, 2006.

Height: 5’6
Weight: 192 (I’m slightly hormonal so that should drop a few pounds quickly. It is cheating but it will make me feel like I’m succeeding.)
Pant size: 14

I think I’m heavy for my size. I watch Celebrity Fit Club on vh1. Tina Yothers is on this time and she started at about the same height and weight as me. But she was wearing a size 18. She’s down in the 170s on the show now and is in a 14.

The Abs Diet book suggests trying the program for 6 weeks to start. So the end of that for me will be October 4. I’m going to keep posting updates so I stay accountable. I need pressure to keep me on track. By that time I’d like to go down one pant size. That’s a realistic goal.
