I realized that I wandered off and never finished logging my vacation stories from my cruise in February. We were cruising up the east coast of Central America. Our last port was in Mexico at Cozumel.

Our morning excursion was to Mayan ruins at San Gervasio. We had missed the ruins in Belize because we went snorkeling. We had a very knowledgeable guide takes us around the site and show us some buildings. The roofs are new and put on to protect any remaining paint from the elements.

This is the main road across the island with a ceremonial gate.

But I’m not going to lie. The best part for me on this visit was the iguanas.

This guy was a star and he knew it. You can see him in front of the building in the picture above. He seemed to live under it. He would come out for every group, get his picture taken, go back in his hole under the foundation, and then wait for the next group of humans to admire him.

In my time I’ve cared for a lot of sickly pet iguanas so I love seeing them in their natural environment and moving normally.

Look at that proud dragon!

Humans used to live here? Whatever. The reptiles will inherit the land!

There were also sleepy dogs.

This one also seemed to be positioning himself for maximum tourist appreciation.
