One of the things I was most excited about was getting a new library. Yeah, geek. Anyway, the branch I figured would be mine was closed on Sunday. My next day to be able to go would be Wednesday. Could I wait? No. I gathered up a piece a mail with my new address and headed downtown to the main branch.
Now I’ve been in a small town for a long time. I love my old library. It wasn’t big but it kept me entertained. This library is from another world.
First of all, parking garage. It is free on weekends but otherwise they validate. Yeah, the library validates parking.
I found the floor I needed to find on the map. The rest of the map was a bit weird. It was labelled with sections of the building for Science and one for Business, etc but nothing for BOOKS. Anyway, I went and got my new card and decided to see if I could figure it out.Â
I was dumbfounded when I realized that the Science section of the building was for books in that part of the Dewey Decimal System. I think my days of wandering down the nonfiction section (the whole nonfiction section) to see if anything catches my eye are over. There was relatively little fiction. Maybe that’s all out at the branches.
Today I founds two books I wanted by checking out the Where are you reading blogs. I went to their catalog. They had them both. One I reserved and the other is an e-audiobook I can download. Seriously, two for two – one novel, one memoir. I would get excited if I could find 25% at my old library and everywhere it swapped with. This is going to be fun!
Yay for a new library to explore!
