This is a wonderful coffee table book featuring the best of National Geographic’s photographs. This book is huge and the cover is deliberately nondescript so as not to compete the amazing images inside.

The photos are accompanied by biographies of and interviews with some of the photographers featured. Honestly, I would have preferred to have more information about the photos themselves instead of the photographers. Why were the subjects chosen? What made that the shot that made the magazine instead of others?

My only other quibble with the book is the placement of the photos. Many are on one page and those look great. However, when photos are placed across a two page spread, details can be lost in the center.

That’s a real shame. Thankfully most of the photos aren’t printed like this so you get to enjoy the whole image.

I’ll be spending quite a while flipping through this book studying the photos. It is a beautiful collection.
