When the fourth princess of Istalam is due to dedicate herself to a path serving the crown, she makes a choice that shocks everyone, herself most of all: She leaves. In hiding and exiled from power, Miyara finds her place running a tea shop in a struggling community that sits on the edge of a magical disaster zone. But there's more brewing under the surface of this city--hidden magic, and hidden machinations--that threaten all the people who've helped her make her own way. Miyara may not be a princess anymore, but with a teapot in hand she'll risk her newfound freedom to discover a more meaningful kind of power. A Coup of Tea is the first book of the Tea Princess Chronicles, a cozy fantasy series full of magic tea, friendship, and lifting people up even when the odds seem impossible.

I have had this series recommended to me because I love cozy fantasy. This is a really fun series that takes place in a world that reveres Tea Masters. They are considered to be diplomats and mediators.

Each of the princess of Istalam are required to dedicate themselves to an area of service to the crown. When it is time for Miyara to dedicate herself, she still hasn’t decided how she wants to serve. When left alone for her ceremony she realizes that she needs to leave her royal life behind in order to serve people in the way in which she wants. She takes off alone and finds herself on the other side of the country penniless and having no clue how to survive outside the palace.

Her training as a princess comes in handy though as she starts her training in a faltering tea shop.

This is a coming of age story with magical elements. It is about developing a found family while working towards a better world for everyone.

Miyara saved the city of Sayorsen and the dragons. She was happy with the place she'd made for herself. But every action triggers consequences. Her older sister comes to drag her back to the palace and the meaningless life she hated. The tea guild won't support her unless she succeeds on her own in their chosen challenge: a tea tournament, and the international politics and unrest that come along with it. And to top it all off, the border protecting the remaining world from the magical disaster zone is suddenly failing. The path she'd thought was clear is twistier than ever, but armed with her trusty tea set Miyara will fight to keep it. Tea Set and Match is the second book of the Tea Princess Chronicles, a cozy fantasy series full of magic tea, baby dragons, friendship, and lifting people up even when the odds seem impossible.

In the second book, Miyara has been found by her family. She’s dealing with this unwanted attention while trying to prove her worth to the Tea Guild. She’s forced into participating in the finals of a national tea contest. Meanwhile, the magical border that has been holding back the magical disaster zone outside the town is starting to fail. It looks like there is a man-made cause. Miyara and her sister are going to have to work together to find out what is happening.

Miyara has saved the day, again. And once again, the world has come calling. Everyone wants a piece of the magical disaster zone for their own agendas, and some will stop at nothing to destroy the border and bring catastrophe down on the world. It's up to Miyara to host a summit bringing all the players to one place so she can find out what's going on and forge the connections necessary to stop it before it's too late for everyone. Failure means the end of the world. Miyara has no choice but to prove once and for all that her path in serving people with tea is powerful enough to matter. Royal Tea Service is the third book of the Tea Princess Chronicles, a cozy fantasy series full of magic tea, baby dragons, friendship, and lifting people up even when the odds seem impossible.

A summit is being held to bring together all the surrounding nations to figure out a solution for the disaster zone once and for all. Miyara’s sisters all come to town and are relying on her to use her Tea Master diplomatic skills to come up with a workable solution. She is also going to have to forge a peace between members of her family.

I loved this whole series. I’m glad I was able to read them when they were all out and didn’t have to wait years in between books.

My only issue was that there were several editing errors, especially in the later books. Words were missing or out of order and things like that. It didn’t diminish my love of this series though. I would still recommend it to everyone who likes books like Legends and Lattes. There are baby dragons, spies, cats, romance, and lots of tea.
